Minister Franzella H. Starkey
Minister Franzella Hayward is a native of Somerset County, Maryland. She is one of ten children born to the late Ethel and Theodore Hayward. Minister Starkey, along with her siblings, was reared by her parents to respect and love God. She received her early religious education and salvation experience at St. Mark's United Methodist Church located in Oaksville, Maryland.
Minister Starkey was educated in the public schools of Somerset County; and, in 1973, was the second student in the entire history of the County to be granted permission to attend college during her Senior year of high school. She went on to receive her Bachelor's of Arts degree from the University of Baltimore, Baltimore, MD, where she also pursued a Master's of Arts degree in Criminal Justice. In May, 1981, Minister Starkey received the degree of Juris Doctorate from the Howard University School of Law, Washington, D. C. She has been a practicing attorney in the State of Maryland since 1982.
In 1985, Minister Starkey accepted her call to be in service for the Lord by becoming a licensed Lay Speaker with the United Methodist Church through St. Mark's United Methodist Church. In 1986, her ministry took on a new dimension when she met and married the Rev. Robert B. Starkey who was then serving the Whaleyville-Bishopville Charge of the United Methodist Church. Since 1986, the Starkeys have been serving the Lord together through their preaching, teaching and musical abilities. The Starkeys are also the founders of Age of Recovery Radio and Television ministries. She is also a member of Women's Koinonia, a women's fellowship group that ministers to the needs of women throughout the east coast of the United States. Minister Starkey's passion is educating the body of Christ about the rights, privileges and freedoms we enjoy as children of God.
Minister Starkey is blessed to share the good news of the gospel along with her husband, Robert, and thier two daughters, Aneesah and Andrea.
